Today I shall be reviewing the manga: Pandora Hearts.
Enjoy
When I picked up the first three volumes of Pandora Hearts, I honestly wasn't expecting much. And if I'm going to seriously be honest here, I thought it was going to be a fantasy/harem... Boy was I wrong.
Pandora Hearts is a fantasy manga written and illustrated by Jun Mochizuki, with 22 volumes released in Japan, Pandora Hearts is still ongoing but plans to end in Volume 23.
Now, I'm not usually one for fantasy, being more of a Gore/Horror/Shounen/Shoujo* fan. But Pandora Hearts seriously got me hooked. I'd purchased them simply because I was about to go on a plane and needed something to read. (Plus Airport prices are significantly lower than your average bookstore) So, as I endeavoured on my 2 hour flight, I dived head first into the world of Pandora Hearts. So as I went through all three volumes, (That's a lie I finished volume 3 on the metro) I fell in love with the plot, the art and Every. Single. Character. Even weird ol' Break. (Especially Gil >-<)
Pandora Hearts revolves mainly around our two main characters Oz Vessalius (Bezarius sometimes..?) and a hot tempered, meat lover named Alice. The two meet when Oz is thrown into the Abyss by a group of hooded strangers, otherwise known as the Baskervilles, after being stabbed by his own (I guess you could say temporarily possessed) friend, Gilbert. This all happens during the Coming of Age Ceremony when Oz is 15. After wandering in the Abyss, he stumbles across Alice, A Chain, with a perfect human appearance. Alice is determined on finding a contractor, and so makes a feeble attempt at persuading Oz. Interested Oz goes to accept, only to be confronted by a woman who introduces herself as Sharon and claims that Alice is a supposed 'Contractor Killer. It is later revealed that it was not Sharon, but a Chain called Mad Baby. Alice rescues Oz from the chain, but is swallowed by it, the only way Oz can save her is to form an illegal contract..
Overall,
5 out of 5 Stars
I love this manga series, I would definitely recommend you to pick it up!
*Awww come on, who doesn't love romance stories and shipping etc.
